If you are currently a high school senior
Welcome Seniors! Here are some steps to help you prepare for Henry Ford College, with recommended timelines.

The following timeline is for students who plan to start in the Fall semester. You may start in Winter, Summer, or Fall. For timelines not shown here, contact us.

Transfer to HFC from another college or university
HFC accepts transfer credits from accredited colleges and universities. Courses listed on your official college transcripts in which you earned a C (2.0) or higher will be reviewed for equivalent or possible elective credit.

High School and College Together
High School students can take courses at HFC through our dual enrollment, advancement plus, Collegiate Academy and Early College programs.
HFC welcomes more than 2,000 students in these programs each semester. These students enjoy the same access to services and resources as all other HFC college students. This includes free tutoring, counseling, library privileges, and much more.

International Students
Henry Ford College welcomes students from all over the world. Please visit our International Students website, or select an international status below.
Employer-Sponsored (Trade and Apprentice)
Employer-sponsored students meet the following criteria:
- You are seeking a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Applied Science degree
- You have been referred to HFC by, and receive educational funding from, a specific corporation, business, nonprofit organization, union, or government agency.
As an employer-sponsored students, you have a Joint Apprentice Committee (JAC) representative who can help you register for classes.
Checklist for employer-sponsored trade and apprentice students
- Apply to HFC
- Complete online orientation
- Complete the math placement assessment Trade and apprentice students starting math TAMA 110 do not need to take the Accuplacer math placement test. If you get a "course objectives have not been started" error when registering for classes, please contact Kenneth Nichols at kenichols@hfcc.edu or call (313)-317-6888.
- Advising by JAC rep at your employer's site
- Meet with your JAC rep at your employer's site to discuss the Related Trade Instruction (RTI) plan.
- Make sure you are approved to take courses and are on the sponsorship list that is sent to HFC.
- Apprentices who are sponsored should verify with their JAC representative that they are on the sponsorship list that is sent to HFC each semester.
If your employer-sponsored program is not part of the HFC Trade and Apprentice program with a Joint Apprentice Committee representative, you should apply as a regular student (see instructions for first-time student or transfer student)
We welcome our guests.
If you are enrolled at any accredited college or university, you can take classes at HFC as a Guest Student and then transfer those HFC credits back to your regular college or university.
You can take classes at HFC any time of the year. This is a great way to earn college credits during the summer or accelerate your graduation plans. Be our guest!
Non-Degree Students
If you want to take classes for personal or professional enrichment, and do not wish to earn a degree or certificate, register as a non-degree student.
NOTE: If you are enrolled at another university or college and want to take classes as a guest at HFC and transfer those credits to your regular college, apply as a Guest Student instead.

Nursing and Health Careers
Students seeking to study nursing or other health careers programs at Henry Ford College have specific admissions requirements. Please refer to the program you want from the list below for directions to apply.
Before you apply to the HFC nursing program or other health careers programs, please follow the checklist below to become an HFC student.

Nursing at HFC
The nursing program accepts applications twice a year with the following deadlines:
- May 31 for Fall admission and
- September 30 for Winter admission
If the above dates fall on a holiday or weekend, the application deadline will extend to the next business day.
Checklist for students applying to the HFC Nursing program
- Apply Select "Pre-Nursing" as your program. You must be admitted to the Nursing program before you can declare "Nursing AAS" as your program of study.
- Attend an online Nursing Program Information Session Complete this session before you start your classes and meet with a Nursing Advisor. You will receive a Hawkmail email confirmation of your session date for your Nursing application.

Tips for success in Nursing admission
Students are admitted to the HFC nursing program based on an application score, which includes multiple factors:
- GPA of your pre-requisite courses (2.7 is the minimum requirement; higher grades are recommended)
- You can check your GPA using our calculator
- Your NAT score (80% is the minimum requirement)
- Your NAT score at the application deadline date cannot be more than 1 year old. You will be allowed 2 attempts in a 12-month period. If you do not pass after the 2nd attempt, you must wait 1 year before you may attempt the test again.
You may also earn additional application points by including documentation of the following:
- ACT or SAT scores.
- A previously earned degree
- Health-related certification or licensure by exam
- Military service: active duty or honorable discharge.
Health Careers admissions (programs other than nursing)
The Ophthalmic Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiographer, Respiratory Therapist and Surgical Technologist programs are limited enrollment programs with specific admission requirements. In order to get on any qualified list you must complete all of the program specific admission requirements.
Checklist: Apply to Health Careers programs
- Complete the Health Careers Program Application for any program to which you want to be admitted.
- You may apply to more than one program.
NOTE: You are "qualified" to be admitted when all of the program admission requirements for your intended program have been completed. Applicants are admitted on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis. The programs begin each Fall term. Application date may be used to determine placement on the qualified waitlist if necessary.
